The Bougainville is the first in the America class to feature a well deck, enhancing its versatility by combining aviation capabilities with surface assault capabilities. These ships are designed to excel in various environments, operating as part of an expeditionary strike group, an amphibious task force, or an amphibious ready group. Equipped with advanced medical facilities and capable of accommodating modern aircraft like the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter and MV-22 Osprey, the Bougainville represents a pinnacle of modern naval engineering. Ingalls Shipbuilding’s Amphibious Ship Program Manager, Gene Miller, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, emphasizing dedication and collaboration.
